Living (or staying) in the Boyne Valley means we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to gorgeous views, great food, and even better pints. So I thought I’d share some of my personal favourites—the kind of places I keep going back to, and always recommend to friends.
Whether you’re new to the area or just looking for a few gems to try, here’s are my favourite spots:
🥐 Best Breakfast – Room 8, Navan
Tucked into the heart of Navan, this place is the kind of breakfast spot that turns into a regular haunt. Great coffee, a solid menu, and the perfect spot to ease into your morning. Be prepared to queue especially at lunch time but definitely worth the wait!
🍦 Best 99 – Ross Cross Garage, near the Hill of Tara
Famous for their foot long 99 – make sure to get the flake and then raspberry sauce – it’s one of the best 99s you’ll ever have. Ideal after a wander around Tara.
🍺 Best Pint of Guinness – J. O’Connell’s, Skryne
Famous for featuring in the Guinness Christmas advert for Sky TV, this place is very popular with locals and visitors – no TV just amazing pints and banter! Add in the views and a warm, traditional pub atmosphere, and you’ve got the perfect stop after exploring the area.

🍔 Best Burger – Yeah! Burger, Navan
Big, juicy, and packed with flavour. When the craving hits, this place gets it right every time. The Parmesan fries are amazing also.
🌅 Best Sunrise Spot – The Hill of Tara
Magical doesn’t even begin to cover it. Wrap up warm, bring a flask, and catch the first light breaking over the ancient landscape. Pure peace.
🍕 Best Pizza – Inside Out, Slane
Wood-fired deliciousness in a cosy spot. Great for a casual dinner or a post-walk treat after exploring Slane Castle or the village. They also have a takeaway spot – Insideout to go that does burgers and BBQ chicken as well as Pizza
🎶 Best Live Music Venue – The Central, Navan
Consistently great live music, chilled vibes, and perfect for a night out without having to head into Dublin. Delicious food also and great cocktails
🌄 Best View – The Burial Cairn at Loughcrew
It’s a hike, but the 360° views are unreal. Pack your runners and make a morning of it—you won’t regret it.
☕ Best Coffee & pastries– Hansel and Gretel Bakery, Navan
Coffee lovers and pastry fans, rejoice. This place has the goods. Everything looks (and tastes) amazing—try the almond croissant if it’s in stock!
🎻 Best Trad Session – Bermingham’s, Navan
A cosy pub, great atmosphere, and proper Irish music. The kind of place where you pop in for one and stay for three.
